Antibacterial Activity of some Antibiotics and Disinfectants against Airborne Bacteria Isolated from Restaurants in Yola

The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity some antibiotic and disinfectant against airborne bacteria from restaurants. Airborne were isolated five different restaurants using open plate method characterized standard microbiological techniques. susceptibility isolates antibiotics disinfectants determined Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion well diffusion. predominant identified in air S. aureus 9 (45%), Micrococcus spp. 5 (25%), Bacillus subtilis 4 (20 %) P. aeruginosa 2 (10 %). results showed that highest lowest average densities for both morning afternoon release 71 86 CFU/ m3 37 46 CFU / respectively. Antimicrobial test revealed susceptible Ciprofloxaxin (88.9%), Ampiclox (66.7%), Amoxicillin Rocephin (55.6%) Gentamycin (55.6%), but resistant streptomycin erythromycin. spp Pefloxacin (60%), Erythromycin (100%), Ciprofloxacin Streptomycin (80%), resistance Gentamycin, Zinnacet, Co-trimoxazole. subtillis (100 %), Pefloxacin, (50 Zinnacet (75 Rocephin, (100%) Augmentin (50%) ofloxacin, streptomycin, Chloramphenicol, Co-trimoxazole, Sparfloxacin, Amoxicilin Rocephin. All species multiple drug resistance. Disinfectants (Hypo Dettol) with varying magnitudes (50-100% concentrations no efficacy at lower than 25%. identifies presence potentially pathogenic degree antimicrobial susceptibilities which may pose a serious health hazard students workers.
